Job description

We are recruiting for a statistician or epidemiologist with strong statistical expertise to join a research team in the Centre for Public Health, Queen’s University Belfast working alongside Dr Chris Cardwell in a program of research funded by CRUK and in collaboration with researchers from the University of Oxford. The principal aim of the post is to determine whether HRT use after diagnosis of cancer alters the risk of death in women with a range of common cancers. Analysis will also be undertaken to investigate the impact of HRT on cardiovascular disease in women with cancer.

The successful candidate will undertake analyses using cohorts of cancer patients from Wales (SAIL) and Scotland (EDRIS) to create datasets for analysis and then apply statistical techniques (such as survival analysis) to these datasets to determine the impact of HRT on cancer-specific mortality and cardiovascular disease.

The Research Fellow will be supported by the faculty Postdoctoral Development Centre as part of a wider Queen’s offering which provides outstanding support to researchers to help move into an independent research or academic post. 

The successful candidate must have:

• A primary degree or Master’s degree in mathematics/statistics or a health-related subject.
• Have or be about to obtain a relevant PhD in applied mathematics/statistics, epidemiology, public health, pharmacy, or related discipline.
• At least 3 years’ recent research experience and skills relevant to this project e.g. database management, statistical analysis, working with large epidemiological datasets.
• Experience of using statistical packages such as STATA.
• Specialist knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques pertinent to cancer epidemiology or pharmacoepidemiology
