Job Details

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Research Assistant within UCD School of Veterinary Medicine

Bovine tuberculosis (bTB), caused by Mycobacterium bovis, costs ~€84 million per year to control in Ireland. Control of bTB hinges upon efficient identification of outbreak sources. Whole genome sequencing of pathogens provides a high resolution tool to track pathogen transmission. Integrating genomic data for M. bovis into the national bTB eradication program will greatly improve the efficiency of current operations.

The successful candidate will join a team that aims to integrate M. bovis genomics into bTB surveillance programmes in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland to bring eradication goals closer.

The candidate will generate whole genome sequence data for M. bovis sourced from infected cattle and wildlife from across Ireland. In addition, the candidate will optimise the methods and technologies used to generate the genomic data.

Salary Scale: €22,609-26,087 per annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent on qualifications and experience.

Closing date: 17:00hrs (local Irish time) on 10th August 2020

Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified. Any applications which are still in progress at the closing time of 17:00hrs (Local Irish Time) on the specified closing date will be cancelled automatically by the system. UCD are unable to accept late applications.
