The Humanities Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago is accepting applications for a part-time Lecturer 2 who will teach in and assist with the administration of the Humanities/Arts Core “Poetry and the Human” (“PATH”) sequence in the College’s General Education Curriculum (Core). The Lecturer 2 will teach four courses in the Poetry and the Human (PATH) sequence each academic year; possibly teaching in both the Humanities sections of the sequence (in the autumn, winter, and spring quarters) and in the Arts Core sections of the sequence (currently offered in the spring quarter). Additionally, the Lecturer 2 will perform a one-course equivalent of administrative duties in support of the sequence’s Faculty Chair, including assisting in the mentoring of Humanities Teaching Fellows and graduate students who teach in the sequence; assisting in the administration of a tutoring program in local public schools that is connected with PATH; assisting in the organization of co-curricular (literary and academic) events for PATH’s students; assisting in the coordination of book orders and other course materials; and leading weekly staff meetings if needed.

The position requires a PhD or equivalent in a relevant humanistic discipline, teaching experience at the college or post-secondary level, and evidence of pedagogical excellence. Experience with teaching in both general education/core curricula and creative writing pedagogy is preferred.
