ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR ADMINISTRATION, Haystack Observatory, to work in concert with director, associate/assistant directors, and staff to orchestrate, implement, and oversee human resources, administrative, fiscal, and operational management. Will provide administrative oversight of headquarters’ staff; prepare annual reports in consultation with director; oversee HR function, i.e., policy interpretation/administration, employee relations, job classifications, salary reviews, rewards and recognition, staff development, recruitment, and orientation; lead/direct financial operations, including current and long-range financial and strategic planning, budget analysis, and metrics; develop/maintain relationships with key Lincoln Lab and campus Facilities staff and others in senior leadership roles on campus involved with funding major capital improvement projects; represent Haystack at budget and project priority meetings to ensure that critical infrastructure projects are identified and funded.
REQUIRED: bachelor’s in business or similar analytical area; ten years’ leadership experience in an administrative, executive, or management position; ability to foster teamwork/building, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines; experience supervising individuals and multiservice teams; excellent problem-solving, project management, analytical, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills; discretion with confidential information/issues; solid understanding of large-scale construction and facilities’ projects; knowledge of financial and research administration, preferably in an academic/research environment with federal sponsors; experience with federal rules/regulations on the administration of federal awards; data orientation; facility with integrating new concepts, practices, and emerging technologies into strategic planning and new business methods; advanced-level Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills; knowledge of SAP or similar accounting package; relational database skills; and experience with BrioQuery and/or Cognos.
PREFERRED: master’s degree, MIT experience, willingness to learn the basics of Haystack’s research fields, and facility with current financial and HR information systems. Job #18795-11
