Applications are invited for a highly motivated and ambitious individual to join the Department of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Health & Life Sciences, Northumbria University. The Department of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation has a growing reputation for international research excellence.

The candidate will be appointed at either a Senior Research Assistant (Grade 5) or Research Fellow (Grade 6), dependent on experience. This project is an excellent opportunity for someone with a previous brain activity or gait analysis research experience, although training will be provided where required. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated researcher with an excellent work ethic who is able to learn new techniques rapidly. They will work with Dr Samuel Stuart and international collaborators, within a growing research environment, supported by clinical and academic colleagues and research students. The researchers involved have a strong national and international research profile with many high impact publications, which have attracted funding from research councils, industry collaborators and charities.

The candidate will work on the Parkinson’s Foundation funded study of brain activity during walking in people with Parkinson’s disease, and the response to cueing interventions. This project aims to investigate the brain activity involved in walking in people with Parkinson’s disease across the spectrum of the condition, and examine the response in brain activity to physiotherapy cueing(visual, auditory, tactile) interventions. The successful candidate will record brain activity and gait with non-invasive mobile wearable equipment, such as functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), electroencephalogram (EEG) and inertial sensors. This role will involve the effective delivery of the study,data collection, analysis and dissemination of findings.

The applicant should have a PhD degree in a relevant subject area, with publications commensurate with career stage. They will have previous experience of delivering a research project and presenting findings to colleagues and collaborators. They must be able to work effectively and work to deadlines.
