RESEARCH SOFTWARE ENGINEER, Media Lab-Laboratory for Social Machines (LSM), to support LSM’s mission to understand and design human networks through the creation of new digital technologies with applications in pro-social media and learning. Will undertake software development, data-management, and data-analysis projects. Responsibilities will include independently scoping, designing, and developing methods and core software systems with direction from research staff; participating in effective product-engineering development practices and adapting workflow for a mixed research/production setting; and productionizing, maintaining, and troubleshooting software in support of projects.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: at least one year of experience delivering production software systems in an industry setting; and experience with Python, JavaScript, and SQL. Must demonstrate the ability to work with a project plan; execute with minimal oversight; and work in a fast paced and uncertain environment, pivoting as research and social needs develop.
PREFERRED: a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related area; experience with React+Redux, cloud computing platforms, and working in a small startup environment; and familiarity with common machine-learning methods and/or data visualization techniques. Job #18713
