Job Description Summary

Research Investigator Senior

As part of the Department of Psychiatry, the Neurodevelopment & Psychosis Section and the Lifespan Brain Institute (LiBI) are devoted to the study of brain and behavior throughout the lifespan. The Research Investigator Sr will assist the Principal Investigator and will act in a leadership role, overseeing large-scale image analysis and integration efforts. This includes overseeing workflow and productivity of lab personnel and providing training to them on specific techniques as necessary. Finally, the SRI will be responsible for data analysis, preparation of manuscripts, and presenting research findings through various forums. Senior Research Investigator must demonstrate the ability to analyze and present data in professional "publication ready" format and to be able to independently prepare manuscripts and grant writings for submission.

Research Investigator Senior

Ted Satterthwaite (www.satterthwaitelab.com) and the Lifespan Brain Institute are seeking to recruit a Senior Research Scientist, who will have operational leadership of the image analysis team.  This job requires substantial experience with highly specialized neuroimaging tools, experiments, and analytics. The applicant will be expected to innovate and apply novel methods that are on the cutting edge of a rapidly moving field.

Responsibilities will include: developing and applying advanced data analysis techniques, developing and maintaining imaging processing pipelines to large-scale datasets, supervising staff and trainees, lead development of new projects for funding, serving as co-investigator on grants, and writing high-impact first-author manuscripts. This position will involve working as part of a highly-interdisciplinary research team that includes experts in diverse fields such as neuropsychiatry (Raquel E. Gur; director of LiBI and UPenn Neuropsychiatry), neuropsychology (Ruben Gur; director of BBL), network theory (Danielle S. Bassett), multivariate pattern analysis (Christos Davatzikos), imaging statistics (Taki Shinohara), reward neuroscience (Dan Wolf), and cognitive neuroscience (David Roalf). To work effectively in this highly collaborative environment, the applicant must have superior communication, language, and writing skills.

Qualifications

Highly advanced professional discipline. M.D., Ph. D., or equivalent doctoral degree and 5-7 years of experience is required. Experience in biomedical or psychological research or data management preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience with linux/unix/bash scripting is preferred; extensive knowledge of tools useful in manipulating and converting data; facility with numbers and meticulous attention to detail; experience with statistics and statistical programming (R preferred); programming experience with one or more general-purpose programming languages preferred; capacity for learning new technical skills independently; experience with neuroimaging tools (SPM, AFNI, FSL) preferred. Background check required.  Position contingent on funding.
