Job Description
Primary responsibility will include maintaining and updating a medical research database, the Integrated Neurodegenerative Disease Database (INDD). This includes web-application development in ASP.NET along with data management and database administration using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2. Overseeing and coordinating efforts in data collection, data entry, reporting, sharing, and quality control of the medical research data. The secondary responsibility is to supervise other IT specialist(s) in our group by providing technical guidance and monitoring IT progress. The third responsibility is to integrate and harmonize imaging data, genetics data, and other big data with INDD data. The fourth responsibility is to perform basic statistical and bioinformatics analyses of big data to support the research of senior staff and faculty. The fifth responsibility is to perform various IT-related projects as assigned.
This position is contingent on funding.
Qualifications
BA/BS with at least 2-3 years’ experience; master degree and 4 years’ experience preferred in a computational (e.g., Computer Science, Bioinformatics) or biological (e.g., Biology, Neuroscience, Genomics) field or equivalent experience. Web-based applications experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL, and one of the web-development languages (i.e. PHP, JSP, ASP) and a working knowledge of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS). Previous experience of handling of imaging data, next-generation sequencing and/or SNP genotyping data optional but preferred. Familiarity with clinical research or clinical trials a plus.
Must possess good organizational and time management skills, good written and verbal communications skills; ability to work independently and with others; be able to multi-task. Willingness to learn and keep current with technology and the rules and regulations involving clinical research a must.
