Job Description Summary
Working in a Drosophila research laboratory, plans and conducts basic experiments to meet research project objectives, with supervision. Assists in performing laboratory experiments with graduate and postdoctoral scientists. Daily management of laboratory experiments,, documentations and processes to ensure regulatory compliance and timely completion of project/program deliverables. Order and store reagents, oversee reagent use using computer documenation, oversee laboratory equipment. Maintain Drosophila stocks, Drosophila genetics and Drosophila histological analysis, molecular biological analysis including PCR, cloning, preparation of constructs. Closely collaborates with Senior Research Specialists and Principal Investigator (PI) on experimental/clinical work set ups in accordance to established protocols.
Scientific aid for PI involved in Drosophila research. Candidate will with work with PI, postdoctoral scientists and graduate students in the laboratory to conduct research for specific projects of focus. Research will involve Drosophila genetic screens, genetic analysis and molecular genetic analysis, cloning and histological approaches. Research may also involve cultured cells, to extend the work from in vivo to cells in culture. Will also contribute to maintenance of laboratory by overseeing databases for reagents, train new laboratory members in basic experimental approaches, and oversee and maintain laboratory equipment. Will work with various scientists in the laboratory to facilitate their research.
Bachelor's Degree with 0-1 year of related experience in research methodologies, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with aspects of Drosophila research including stock maintenance, genetics, molecular genetics, is preferred. High level of organization and efficiency, ability to pay close attention to detail required. Ability to work independently, train others, and assemble research into professional reports for presentation.
