Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Admissions, the Senior Associate/Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions will be a key senior leader and manager for all strategies and projects related to, but not limited to:

  1. recruiting and evaluating candidates for undergraduate admission with a special emphasis on diversity, inclusion, and gender-equity;
  2. developing and strengthening high school counselor relationships; and
  3. campus events. The Senior Associate/Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions is a regular, full-time, benefits-eligible salaried position. As an office manager, the Senior Associate/Associate Director will have 2-3 direct reports.

Job Duties

  • Develop and execute data-driven strategies focused on outreach and recruitment of targeted underrepresented student populations (i.e. minority, female, low-income, 1st generation)
  • Create and actively manage a high school counselor advisory group with various contact points throughout the year
  • Strategic planning and project management of all campus events, which includes leading teams of admission staff on related functions
  • Counsel students and conduct presentations about Caltech undergraduate life, admissions and financial aid policies/procedures to audiences on campus, in high schools, and at large off-campus venues
  • Plan and execute an effective recruitment travel plan that makes appropriate use of staff time, budget, and data to target the most promising candidates to Caltech
  • Travel as much as 3-5 weeks during the fall months, including but not limited to out of state travel
  • Build and maintain relationships with high school counselors and alumni in an assigned fixed region, as well as with faculty, staff and other relevant stakeholders
  • Thoroughly read, critically evaluate, and recommend appropriate admission decisions on highly competitive applications
  • Directly manage 2-3 staff members and assist the Director in the performance management and annual performance evaluations of those staff members
  • Carry out other admissions-related projects as assigned by the Director

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5-8 years of professional experience in undergraduate admissions, high school counselor, or related field
  • Ability to work, and comfort with, diverse audiences
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience planning large-scale events
  • Incumbent must be conscientious, proactive, self-motivated and a strong, positive team player
  • Must have the ability to participate in a fast-paced, creative, and success/deadline driven environment
  • Attention to detail, especially as it pertains to the holistic review of application materials
  • Exhibit professional behavior and excellent judgment in executing all activities of the office
  • Flexibility to travel by air, especially for several weeks in the fall, spring or summer months, to domestic locations
  • Must have the ability to manage several projects simultaneously while meeting aggressive deadlines
  • Knowledge of basic Microsoft office tools including Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Flexibility to work beyond a typical 8am-5pm job, including evening and weekend projects
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license through the course of employment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree preferably in an education or relevant field of study
  • Relevant selective higher education admissions experience working with diverse student populations
