Department of History

The Department of History (https://www.ln.edu.hk/history/) is seeking to hire a full-time Assistant Professor in world history with special interest in historians of the Pacific Worlds. Candidates who study world history from the Pacific perspective, or candidates who work on region(s) of the Pacific Worlds in any period (including but not limited to Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, the Americas, and Greater China including Taiwan and Hong Kong) with transnational or transregional research interests are encouraged to apply. Subfields are open with particular interest in the history of technology, media history, migration and diaspora, material culture, cultural memory, and environmental history. We also welcome candidates with interests in digital humanities.

General Requirements

The applicants should have a PhD degree in the relevant discipline by the time of appointment in August of 2021. Relevant teaching experience and a good research record are essential. Applicants should also have excellent communication and presentation skills. Administrative experience will be an advantage. The appointee is expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and services to the Department and the University community, and to engage actively in quality research and publication.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.

Appointments will normally be made on an initial contract of three years, which, subject to review and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointments with possibility of consideration for substantiation.
