About the position

This 100 % permanent position is aimed at those who want to work at the intersection of information technology, research, and research methods, together with the Group for Research Support at the IT Division at NTNU. The main task of this position is to port code to accelerators and to implement algorithms on accelerator hardware.

The position is part of the High Performance Computing (HPC) team of the IT Division at NTNU.  

The HPC Team partake in the operations and advanced support of the national HPC infrastructure of Norway, under the mandate of Uninett Sigma2.The primary focus of the new position will be the national HPC resources administered by Uninett Sigma2.

The position is located in Trondheim. You will report to the group leader at NTNU IT Research Support, which is part of the IT Development Section of the IT Division.

Duties of the position

• Porting existing HPC codes (starting with those consuming the most CPU hours in Norway) to accelerators (GPUs)
• Being part of the team that operates and maintains the national HPC and storage systems, FRAM (35 000 cores), Saga (10 000 cores), Betzy (172 000 cores), NIRD (11 PiB), (100+ GPUs)
• Possible involvement in collaborations such as PRACE, EuroHPC, LUMI and NEIC projects
• Taking part in the group’s HPC user support activities
• Developing internal and external documentation
• Organizing and conducting training courses

Required selection criteria

• Higher education, minimum Master’s level, Phd level preferred. This can be compensated for by documented relevant work experience
• Deep knowledge of accelerator coding, code porting and optimization
• Proficiency in CUDA or similar
• Proficiency in C and/or C++ programming
• High programming competence within relevant fields
• Experience with the MPI communication standard in the context of accelerators
• Experience with the Linux operating system
• Experience with HPC, either as a user or an operator.
• Experience with the operation and debugging of complex IT systems.
• You have a good knowledge of English, as it is the working language

Preferred selection criteria

• Knowledge of OpenMP, OpenACC and OpenCL
• Experience with one or more of FPGA, ASICs, IPU, new accelerators (EPI)
• Experience with Python, Julia and Fortran
• Knowledge of RDMA
• Experience with working in teams of different size, and distributed teams
• Experience with version control
• Experience with giving courses
• Experience with batch queuing systems
• A working understanding of Norwegian

Salary and conditions

The gross salary for the position is normally remunerated at gross from NOK 472 000 - 655 400 for overingeniør, code 1087, or NOK 513 600 - 655 400 for senioringeniør, code 1181, before tax per year, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. 

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria's in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.
