The Department of Biosciences seeks to recruit a Post Doctoral Research Associate in Kinetoplastid Drug Target Validation.
The post is fixed term to the end of December 2021 and the successful candidate will be working with Dr Paul Denny (PI) at Durham University.
Molecular drug target validation in Leishmania and Trypanosoma cruzi
Leishmaniasis and Chagas Disease are a Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) caused by related insect-borne Leishmania spp and Trypanosoma cruzi protozoa respectively. With increasing cases (>12M), limited drugs and rising resistance, the development of new effective, non-toxic and affordable therapies is essential. In a UK-Brazil-Uruguay-India-GSK collaboration we will identify and validate new drug targets in the causative agents of leishmaniasis and Chagas disease by using a combination of genetic (edit editing) and chemical (inhibitor) approaches. These will be formatted into assays to facilitate entry into a drug discovery programme.
