Professor/Associate Professor in Medicine Obesity and Metabolism

About the position

At the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, we have a vacancy for a 100% permanent position as Professor/Associate Professor in Medicine (Obesity and Metabolism). 

The position is at the Department of Clinical and Molecular Medicine.

You will report to the head of department.

Duties of the position

  • Teaching, supervision and curriculum development within the field of obesity and metabolism
  • Research within the field of obesity and metabolism in collaboration with established research groups
  • Administrative duties

The appointee is expected to teach within their relevant expertise across all study programmes at the Faculty.

The person appointed must comply with the decisions about changes due to developments in the subject area, and the organizational changes that may result from decisions regarding the university's activities. 

Required selection criteria

The position of Professor within obesity and metabolism requires that you meet the criteria in the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts section 1-2. 

  • your academic work must be essentially within obesity and metabolism, and of high international level 
  • an ability to initiate and lead research activity and to attract external funding are important

In addition to formal qualifications in teaching at university level, you must document

  • development in teaching and counselling of students over time
  • extensive experience with supervision preferably at the PhD level
  • participation in the development of educational quality in a work environment

For appointment as a professor, an academic level conforming to established national standards is required

The position of Associate Professor within obesity and metabolism requires that you meet the criteria in the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts section 1-4. 

  • Your PhD, or academic work of the same scope and quality, must be essentially within obesity and metabolism 

You will be expected to deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and undertake supervision of Masters and Doctoral candidates. Evaluation of these skills will be based on documented experience and relevant teaching qualifications. Applicants with teaching experience at university level are preferred. Quality and breadth of the teaching qualifications will be evaluated.

NTNU is committed to following evaluation criteria for research quality according to The San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment - DORA. This means that we pay special attention to the quality and professional breadth of these works. We also consider experience from research management and participation in research projects. 

You must document relevant basic competence for teaching and supervision at university/higher education-level. If this cannot be documented, you are required to complete an approved course in university teaching within two years of commencement. NTNU offers qualifying courses. 

It is a prerequisite that within three years of appointment, new employees who do not speak a Scandinavian language can demonstrate skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language equivalent to level three in the course for Norwegian for speakers of other languages at the Department of Language and Literature at NTNU.

Preferred selection criteria

  • applicants with teaching experience from higher education will be preferred 
  • a relevant clinical speciality within nutrition, pediatrics, surgery or endocrinology
  • skilled in the English language

We offer 

Salary and conditions

In a position as professor (code 1013) you will normally be remunerated from gross NOK 704 900,- to NOK 900 000,- per year, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

In a position as associate professor (code 1011) you will normally be remunerated from gross NOK 573 100,- to NOK 704 900,- per year, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

It is a prerequisite that you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis.
