Overview
The Senior Research Specialist works directly under the Arab Barometer Project Director. The Senior Research Specialist assists in questionnaire development, perform quality control procedures, assist in statistical analysis, undertake data analysis to support reports and conduct data analysis in support of presentations reports for dissemination of the findings. The Senior Research Specialist is also responsible for conducting analysis using Arab Barometer data in support of outreach to academics, government officials, the press, and other target audiences.
**This position is located in Washington, DC. This is a term position, ending on March 31, 2022, with possiblity of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and continued funding.
Responsibilities
Data analysis (50%)
- Conduct analyses of survey data
- Prepare summary findings
- Run advanced statistical models
- Conduct analysis for academic research projects
- Perform data visualization for reports and presentations
- Compile and analyze trend data
Quality control (25%)
- Perform quality control checks on survey data
- Fact-check and number-check Arab Barometer products
- Clean and prepare datasets for public release
Survey design and questionnaire development (15%)
- Develop research questions
- Draft questionnaires
- Design samples to meet project needs
Outreach (10%)
- Respond to external requests for information
- Present research to key audiences
Qualifications
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Strong analytical and research skills
- Experience working with survey data
- Background in quantitative analysis
- Knowledge of Stata, R, or other statistical software is required
- Strong verbal and written communications skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to communicate research results clearly and concisely
- Ability to meet tight deadlines across multiple survey projects while ensuring accuracy of results
- Experience with conducting international survey research preferred
Education/Training/Experience
- Advanced degree in Social Sciences or Statistics with Ph.D. strongly preferred
- Proven experience in undertaking research involving survey data analysis, including using Stata, R, and other software
- Familiarity and experience with regression and MLE techniques, including advanced techniques such as multilevel modeling
- Knowledge and interest in the Middle East and North Africa
- Arabic language skills highly desirable
