The Research Officer will conduct laboratory research in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity under the supervision of Professor Kanta Subbarao (Director, WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza, also at the Doherty Institute).

The research focuses on COVID-19/SARS-CoV-2 biology and pathogenesis and antiviral testing. They will contribute to the experimental work and strategic development of the research program, particularly in vitro evaluation of antiviral drugs and basic questions of viral pathogenesis in stem cell derived tissues. A significant proportion of the work will be conducted in PC3 containment.

The Research Officer will also be expected to undertake appropriate laboratory-based activities including the writing of manuscripts based on laboratory results for publication in scientific journals, the writing of grant applications to fund research and laboratory administrative activities including maintenance of safety standards and laboratory protocols necessary to maintain those standards.
