The Humanities Collegiate Division and the Department of Art History at the University of Chicago are accepting applications for a part-time, benefits-eligible Lecturer in Architecture and Urban Design for a one-year, renewable term starting 1 September 2020.

A Master’s Degree or equivalent in Architecture, Urban Design, or a related field is required. The teaching load will include three introductory design classes over three quarters of the academic year focused respectively on skill acquisition, a particular city, and a building type. Additional duties, equivalent to one additional course, may include advising students studying the built environment as well as Architectural Studies minors; in-class design critiques as directed; BA thesis advising as directed; support of design studio classes including assisting with materials ordering and orientation of design studio instructors; coordinating with other university entities engaging the built environment for purposes of program development; and organizing one annual open house for students interested in urban architecture and design.

To apply for this position candidates must submit their application through the University of Chicago’s Interfolio jobs board at apply.interfolio.com/76904 .

Applicants must upload a current CV; a cover letter of interest that addresses professional and teaching experience and discusses approaches to inclusive pedagogy; sample syllabi; and the names and contact information for three references. Optionally, course evaluations may be uploaded if available.

Application deadline is 1 August 2020. Only complete applications will be considered. For further questions about the position, please contact Prof. Niall Atkinson, Chair, Department of Art History, nsatkinson@uchicago.edu
