Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in Galactic Astronomy, to work with Dr. Sebastian Kamann in the Stellar Clusters group at the Astrophysics Research Institute of Liverpool John Moores University.

You will work in the UKRI-funded project "Stellar Clusters as the Nurseries of Black Holes". The aim of the project is to constrain the contribution of star clusters to the cosmic mass spectrum of black holes, using a combination of state-of-the-art observational data and advanced dynamical models. In particular, you will be able to work on all data obtained in the MUSE stellar clusters GTO programmes. Possible project tasks include the post-processing of these data or the generation of dedicated cluster models (such as analytical, orbit- or particle-based models) as well as data-model comparisons.

You should have a PhD in astronomy/astrophysics or a closely related field by the starting date. The position is offered for up to 4 years. The nominal start date is November 1st 2020.

The Astrophysics Research Institute is committed to promoting diversity. Applications from members of traditionally under-represented groups are particularly encouraged.

Any queries about the application should be directed to Sebastian Kamann (s.kamann@ljmu.ac.uk).

The School/ department is committed to promoting equality and diversity, including the Athena SWAN Gender Equality charter for promoting the career of Women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) in higher education. We particularly welcome applications from women for this post and all appointments will be made on merit.

Please note all of our vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated.
