The Durham Centre for Academic Development (DCAD) seeks to appoint a talented individual to the role of either Digital Learning Developer or Senior Digital Learning Developer. We welcome applications from those with experience of developing online inclusive content to support student learning.

Our Digital Learning Developers and Senior Digital Learning Developers will make a significant contribution to the development of Durham’s Digital Learning Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, testing and refining high quality online learning programmes, and activities to support Durham’s diverse student community both in terms of blended and distance learning.

We are therefore seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our team with significant general experience of online learning design and development, training (both 1:2:1 and seminar) and with specialisms in one (or more) of the following: Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Game/Simulation Design and Web Design. Creativity, playfulness, and experimentation are core to the DCAD mission, and we are seeking individuals who share our passion for innovative and novel approaches to learning enhancement.

We welcome applications from people who wish to be considered for either the Digital Learning Developer role, the Senior Digital Learning Developer role or both.

To be successful you will need to evidence you meet all of the criteria set out below:

G7 Digital Learning Developer / G8 Senior Digital Learning Developer

  • Ability to provide specialist advice and support to academics on the development and implementation of engaging and inclusive online learning technologies.
  • Strong communication skills with experience of working as part of a team and engaging academic staff at all levels.
  • Understanding of digital pedagogy, interaction design, inclusive design, and effective use of learning technologies.
  • Extensive experience of creating interactive or rich-media digital content that is engaging and accessible.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a rapidly changing and uncertain environment developing new knowledge and skills as required.
  • Specialist skills in one or more of the following areas: graphic design, interaction design, digital game/simulation development, video development.

In addition for G8 Senior Digital Learning Developer

  • Engagement in scholarship in educational technology through doctoral study or other research, and scholarly publication.
  • Experience of having led projects in the design and development of online and digital programmes or content.

Essential Criteria for Grade 7:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Continuing professional development required to maintain professional recognition. Hold either Fellowship of HEA (FHEA) or CMALT Accreditation.

  • Education to degree level in the field of either learning design, digital education, educational technology or similar.
  • Experienced practitioner who has led teaching/research project working within an educational, commercial or industrial environment.
  • Demonstrable ability to teach or train others with specific technical skills.
  • Experience of designing online learning using an online learning development software e.g. Articulate, Captivate etc.

Essential Criteria for Grade 8:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to develop excellent working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Proven IT skills, including use of Microsoft Office.
  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience).
  • Masters / PhD in a relevant discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Professional practitioner with specialist knowledge and expertise used to influence service delivery and activities within the organisation.
  • Relevant industry and professional recognition and certification of achievement of skills and knowledge.
  • Continuing professional development required to maintain professional recognition. Hold both Fellowship of HEA (FHEA) and CMALT Accreditation.
  • Experience of being able to network effectively and develop strong and productive working relationships.
  • Ability to solve problems and resolve issues, plan solutions and make pragmatic decisions.
  • Ability to contribute to planning at operational and strategic levels.
