The Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) is a research institute of The University of Queensland (UQ), supported by the Queensland Government and industry. As one of the few research-intensive universities worldwide located in a subtropical environment, UQ is a global leader in agriculture and food science research in subtropical and tropical production systems. QAAFI is a world-class connected research institute in crop, horticulture, animal, and nutrition and food sciences, delivering industry-driven economic, environmental, and social impact. QAAFI is comprised of four inter-related research centres – Centre for Animal Science, Centre for Crop Science, Centre for Horticultural Science, and Centre for Nutrition and Food Sciences. Together these centres focus on the challenges facing tropical and sub-tropical food and agribusiness sectors in tropical and subtropical production systems.

About This Opportunity

The Director of QAAFI will lead a world-class multi-disciplinary research institute, harnessing the extensive research and innovation capabilities across UQ, while focusing on critical global agrifood challenges and opportunities. Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and a member of the University’s Senior Management Group, the Director has overall leadership responsibility for the strategic, research and operational outcomes of the Institute and its extensive engagement activities, leading to research impact. QAAFI is evolving to respond to changing external factors in global bio-economies, food security, digital technologies and the environment, and as such will provide research leadership to areas of research in agriculture, food and nutrition, fostering opportunities that develop innovative solutions at scale.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position for 5 years as Director, QAAFI and Professor at Academic Level E. An affiliate appointment and/or reversionary underlying continuing appointment may be possible for an outstanding appointee within a relevant Faculty or Institute of the university.

An attractive remuneration package with loadings will be negotiated with the successful candidate. Remuneration will be subject to periodic review.
