Work includes preparation of scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published records. The position will prepare and process C. elegans worms for electron microscopy to better understand the function and structure of the C. elegans nervous system. Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Review literature and data generated in the lab in order to recommend the design of new experiments and protocols to address the research questions laid out by the PI. Recommend new research questions based on findings.
  • Analyze, develop, and interpret all the data collected through EM techniques.
  • Work with lab members and extramural collaborators to coordinate projects and approaches.
  • Prepare electron microscopy data for presentations, including published scientific reports and seminars.
  • Sample preparation techniques, including:
    • Fix C. elegans larvae and embryos by high pressure freeze and freeze substitution (HPF/FS).
    • Embed, trim, and orient fixed samples.  Cut and stain serial sections at specific ROI.
    • Prepare samples for immunolabeling and perform immunogold staining.
  • Process electron micrographs, including montaging, alignment, segmentation, and 3D rendering.
  • Perform advanced microscopy methods such as electron tomography, Focus-Ion-Beam SEM (FIB-SEM) 3D volume imaging as needed by projects.
