Job Description Summary
The Linguistic Data Consortium (LDC) is seeking a Jr Systems Administrator to respond to requests that are escalated by our support department. This position will also be responsible for configuring, monitoring and, maintaining the LDC computer infrastructure, which is comprised of predominantly Linux servers and workstations. The candidate should be comfortable working with Linux, OSX and, Windows 10. This position will require strong ability to troubleshoot issues across a variety of operating systems.
Job Description
This position will be working between the systems administrator and the support technicians to ensure that issues get resolved in a timely manner. Strong troubleshooting skills in Linux, OSX and, Windows with the ability to work as both part of a small team and independently when required. This position will also coordinate with the Sr Systems Administrator to Deploy, Upgrade, Test and, Maintain services as required by the ongoing research projects. Much of the work in this position will require interaction with the other departments at the LDC as well as external entities.
The position will also work with other employees in the department to provide training to the rest of the organization on best practices, periodic safety refreshers and, pre maintenance briefings. As such it will be important to explain complex concepts in common language and answer user questions in an interactive format.
Most daily work will be via a ticketing system, tracking of effort allows us examine areas where better service is needed. The ideal candidate should be familiar with task assignment and operation of a ticketing system.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
BS/Computer Science and 1 to 2 years of Linux Administration experience, or equivalent education and experience.
Familiarity with MySQL/MariaDB, Apache, FreeNAS/TrueNAS, OpenLDAP, VMWare VCenter, Linux, OSX and, Windows 10
Ability to work both in a small group and independently.
Preferred:
Familiarity with Veeam, Openstack, Postfix, Spamassassin, Dovecot, nginx, Shell Scripting, PERL, Python, Ruby, ZFS, EXT4, iSCSI, NFS.
