About the Job

We are currently seeking a Research Associate, Social Media Data Analytics, to join our Department of Business Technology & Entrepreneurship. In this role, you will support a variety of data science related research activities involving investigating and analysing Twitter data. You will play an integral role as part of an agile, dynamic research team, working collaboratively with several other universities.

As the Research Associate, Social Media Data Analytics, you will work on a legacy system and transform an existing application to match the current Twitter data format and build a database backend to facilitate on-going research and data collection. As a result, your expertise in extracting large Twitter data sets and understanding of JSON will be vital. The successful applicant will be able to independently translate requests into actionable results by building machine learning applications and development of complex code to be applied to a variety of quantitative data using multiple coding languages with a preference to Python. In addition, you will draw on your problem solving and assessment skills, along with dexterity working with applications.

About you

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Degree or Masters in Data Science/Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering or relevant fields
  • Proven track record of working in projects related to health informatics, data analytics, computer science, software engineering or related fields
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a research team including in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Expertise in leading analytics software such as Python or similar
