Professor / Associate Professor in Electrical Engineering or Physics
Working within the Department of Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering, you will provide expertise in an area of Electrical Engineering or Physics to further enhance research, teaching and entrepreneurial activities. This will include designing, developing and delivering high-quality teaching activities, undertaking individual and joint research to produce high-quality academic outputs, and participating in external activity to generate income and promote the subject.
The Department has particular strengths in four core research areas: Renewable Energy Technologies & Materials, Electrical Power & Control Systems, Photonics & Communications (including Optical Communications) and Smart Materials & Surfaces.
We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with cross-disciplinary strengths in any of the following areas: energy production generation or storage devices specifically in relation to electric vehicles or smart homes, optics/photonics in relation to device design or communication channels, internet of things, digital electronic synthesis, or smart materials in relation to surfaces or photovoltaics, though we will consider high-quality applications in any relevant area.
As a senior Academic colleague, you will assist the Faculty Pro Vice-Chancellor to maintain and enhance the University’s national and international reputation in your academic field. You must demonstrate continuing academic achievement, and provide academic leadership (of your subject and associated colleagues) through active contribution to your discipline and to the life and work of the Faculty and the wider University. This will include contributing to significant change within practice, the discipline, profession and/or community at regional, national and international level.
To be successful in this role you will have externally recognised research outputs of a quality that are internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance and rigour, and demonstrable success in securing research funding. You should also demonstrate academic leadership experience and strong standing with external bodies and networks in your field.
