The University of Waikato Joint Institute at Zhejiang University City College is designated as an Institute authorised to deliver NZ (University of Waikato) and Chinese (Ministry of Education) accredited degrees. Currently, the Institute offers undergraduate degrees in Finance, Interface Design and Media Design. All teaching is conducted in English. After three years of operation, the Institute has an enrolment of 680 students, and the total enrolment will approach 1,000 students later this year.

Applications are invited to apply for a position to contribute to teaching courses in the area of Interface Design in the Bachelor of Design, taught at the Joint Institute by the Design Group of the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences. The position is based in China.

The Bachelor of Design (BDes) in Interface Design combines highly creative design and visual communication courses with computer programming courses. The degree has been created through a unique partnership in consultation with the design industry to meet the increasing demand for experts in design who can fluently understand the digital world.

The role requires you to have an in-depth knowledge of the design discipline, with a desirable emphasis upon human-centred design, design systems, typography, user experience (UX) or human-computer interaction (HCI). The role also requires you to have experience with working in an international organisation.

To be successful in the role, you will have demonstrated experience in both lecturing and facilitating creative workshops with large groups of students, the experience of teaching across cultures and the ability to work with students for whom English is not their first language.

Successful candidates for the position of Professional Teaching Fellow will hold a relevant Masters degree while candidates for the positions of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer will hold a PhD. Candidates for the position of Lecturer are expected to demonstrate a developing research profile with at least two or more publications. Candidates for the position of Senior Lecturer are expected to demonstrate an internationally recognised research profile with at least five or more publications as well as supervision experience and the ability to attract research funding.

Current salary range for Professional Teaching Fellows will be in the range of CNY320,000 to CNY455,000 per year, for Lecturers will be in the range of CNY342,000 to CNY405,000 per year, and for Senior Lecturers will be in the range of CNY421,000 to CNY548,000 dependent on qualifications, skills and experience.

The appointment will start in August 2020 to include training before teaching at the Joint Institute starts in September 2020. The appointment will be a foreign expert, with employment compliant with the regulations of the provincial government. These regulations stipulate who is eligible for legal employment as a foreign expert with regard to obtaining work permits and visas.
