The School of Biological Sciences invites applications for the position of Research Fellow.

The objective of the project the candidate will work on is to develop a coarse-grained (CG) model of the nucleosome and chromatin based on atomistic molecular dynamics simulations of DNA and peptides mimicking the histone tails of the nucleosome. The CG model will be used for large scale simulation of nucleosome core particle phase separation as validation before the next step to study chromatin folding and self-association.

Responsibilities

  • Run simulations on remote clusters and analyse the data
  • Write scripts to run these simulations
  • Gather data from underlying CGMD simulations and run analysis on it
  • Present results in conferences and group meetings
  • Write grant applications

Requirements

  • PhD in Biological Sciences
  • PhD candidates who are about to submit thesis for examination or have submitted thesis for defence are also welcome to apply
  • Minimum 4 years of research experience in computational modelling for DNA compaction
  • Research experience in molecular simulations of biomolecules
  • Sound knowledge in data science and conducting data analysis
  • Ability to communicate major elements of experimental design and results to other staff, management and visitors
  • Knowledge of scientific software like Phyton, R, LaTex, C++ and Linux will be an added advantage
  • Must be an effective team player with good communication and interpersonal skills
