About the role

This position provides the opportunity to participate in a collaborative research project between the Southern Cross University and the Department of Primary Industries (DPI), funded by the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation (FRDC). The Research Assistant will provide technical, computing, field and laboratory support a project on Eastern School Whiting Fisheries. The successful candidate will support University and Department of Primary Industries (DPI) researchers, along with Higher Degree Research (HDR) students.

The Research Assistant will be based in the National Marine Science Centre (NMSC) at Coffs Harbour, which is part of the School of Environment, Science and Engineering. The Centre delivers high quality research on marine ecosystems and contributes to the University’s Marine Science and Management undergraduate program, along with Masters and PhD programs in coastal and marine science disciplines.

The remuneration package is up to $75,905 per annum (inclusive of base salary $64,484-$69,320 per annum and employer's contribution to superannuation). 

About you

We are seeking applications from researchers or laboratory staff, ideally with experience within the marine science or fisheries areas. Applicants should have an energetic and organised approach to their work, with an ability to manage competing deadlines. Applicants should have an adaptable solutions-based approach and enjoy the diversity of activities that this role offers.

A qualification in Marine Science, Environmental Science or similar would be advantageous.
