ACCOUNTING OFFICER, Office of the Vice President for Finance (VPF)-Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR), to be responsible for financial reporting, compliance, analysis, control, and improvement of complex accounting and financial functions of assigned areas.  Responsibilities include developing and making improvements to accounting, data, and reporting processes; reviewing and managing financial data using SAP and other financial reporting tools; acting as a resource to VPF staff and the MIT community; performing financial analysis within key accounting areas and identifying, researching, and resolving issues; participating in audit activities; developing, implementing, monitoring, and reporting budget performance; providing end-user operational support; MIT financial policy interpretation; participating in the development and delivery of training classes; managing master data creation and maintenance related to trial balance and financial statements; monthly and year-end close; processing journal entries related to research account adjustments; and other duties and special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or related field; at least four years’ related financial accounting and reporting experience; excellent customer service, collaboration, interpersonal, communication, and problem identification and problem-solving skills; Microsoft Excel and Word proficiency; and experience with reporting tools such as BrioQuery and/or Cognos.  Must be able to manage conflicting priorities, meet strict deadlines, and manage multiple tasks effectively; work independently and as part of a team; collaborate with a diverse group of people; convey complex issues effectively; and function in a complex, busy, changing environment.

 PREFERRED:  CPA; master’s degree; experience with corporate finance, financial reporting, budgeting, accounting, and managing complex business processes; experience defining and creating reports/dashboards; experience with SAP or similar accounting and reporting systems; and experience in higher education or nonprofit accounting.  Job #18359-8
