Job description

Applications are invited from future leaders of any nationality to join our vibrant and multi-cultural team as a Research Fellow in Power Electronics on a 24 month fixed term contract with a funding end date of December 2022.

This project aims to develop a novel power electronics converter to connect floating offshore wind turbines to power networks, ensuring resilience, high efficiency, superior reliability and the least impact on the environment. This will be achieved by undertaking advanced modelling and computer simulation to identify the optimal converter design, followed by the development of intelligent control software to maximise the efficiency and fault-tolerant operation of the converter. The performance of the final design will be validated through prototype hardware implementation and testing in consultation with our industrial partner.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Hold, or about to obtain, a PhD in Power Electronics, Electronic/Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • At least 3 years’ demonstrable and relevant research experience in the broad area of power electronics, power converter architectures and control.
  • Evidence of a strong publication record commensurate with career stage and experience in the proceedings of international conferences and journals (such as IET and IEEE Transactions etc).
  • Demonstrable knowledge/skills in Power Electronics design software, including packages such as MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Programming skills including software for programming DSP, PSoC, or FPGAs control platforms.

You will have substantial opportunities to build their career, including training in innovation, commercialisation and soft skills, travelling to research conferences, and collaborating with our industrial partner IXYS UK Westcode Ltd.
