Applications are invited for a Temporary or Permanent post of a Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Forestry within UCD School of Agriculture & Food Science

Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Forestry in the Forestry group of the Environment and Sustainable Resource Management Section in UCD's School of Agriculture & Food Science. The appointee will join a team of 17 full-time academics within the Section who offer a diverse portfolio of programmes, including three BAgrSc programmes in Agri-environmental Sciences, Forestry, and Horticulture, and two taught Master's programmes in Wildlife Conservation & Management, and Environmental Resource Management.

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who has demonstrated aptitude, commitment and passion for teaching, with research expertise in one or more of the areas of climate change and its linkages with carbon sequestration in forest ecosystems; new silvicultural practices such as short rotation forestry; forest productivity and wood quality; forest operations; tree improvement.

Applicants must have a PhD degree in Forestry and the appointee will have specific expertise in Forestry that is relevant to the forestry sector in Ireland and Europe. They will be committed to develop this expertise further through academic research and engagement with a cross-section of public and private sector partners, to share this expertise through teaching undergraduate and graduate students and to develop their discipline in the School, University and wider community.

The successful applicant will coordinate and deliver a number of academic modules either in full or in partnership with other staff members. While the focus will be on Forestry undergraduate and graduate degree programmes, he/she will also contribute teaching to other programmes in the School. The successful applicant will also conduct leading research appropriate to the objectives of the Section, School and University.

The successful candidate will be offered a 3-year temporary contract or permanent position based on experience and trajectory as determined by the Interview Board.

95 Lecturer/Assistant Professor (above the bar) Salary Scale: €53,773 to €84,544 per annum
Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.
