TECHNICAL ASSOCIATEBiological Engineering, to work independently and in small teams on various projects combining genetics, molecular and cell biology, and microbiology approaches to identify and validate therapeutic targets against malaria.  Will work with postdoctoral associates performing experimental procedures and assist other lab members as instructed. Responsibilities include generating, genotyping, and maintaining transgenic parasite cell lines; carrying out quantitative cell viability assays; performing screens of moderate-sized compound collections against parasite cell lines to identify inhibitors; and analyzing quantitative data generated during viability and compound screening assays.  

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, molecular/cellular biology or other related life sciences field; a minimum of two years’ laboratory technician experience; experience with cellular molecular biology, sterile technique methods, mammalian/parasite cell culture, cell transfection, genomic DNA/RNA isolation, and PCR and DNA sequencing methods (Sanger and/or Next Generation); ability to maintain up-to-date process workflows and accurate inventories of materials created; basic computer skills; and excellent organizational, planning, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills; self-motivation; and detail-orientation. Must be able to maintain detailed and legible notebooks and electronic records; integrate feedback and requests from team members into streamlined, efficient, and productive workflows; work both independently and as part of a team; follow complex instructions with attention to detail and accuracy; plan and troubleshoot experiments independently; multitask; carefully document work in written records; and function effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic research environment.  Experience maintaining, generating, and/or cloning P. falciparum cell lines a plus; as is experience with Microsoft Office, FileMaker Pro, and GraphPad Prism. The work may involve exposure to chemicals.

May work some nights and weekends.
