We are seeking a Senior Research Associate to contribute to a study of the discharge of care orders in England and Wales, funded by the Nuffield Foundation. The post will be based at the School for Policy Studies, University of Bristol, and will include identifying and analysing cases in the Cafcass and Cafcass Cymru electronic databases curated by the Nuffield Family Justice Observatory and hosted in the SAIL databank. 

The role holder will have excellent data analysis skills, including skills in using DB2 SQL and SPSS, the ability to write syntax, experience in advanced statistical analysis using SPSS and excellent written and oral communication skills. They will have experience of undertaking research with public sector agencies such as children’s services, education, health and an understanding of the ethics of working with sensitive data held in administrative databases, court documents and local authority files. The position will bring opportunities for the role holder to expand and enhance their research skills and knowledge. The role holder must be willing to complete the necessary steps to work in the SAIL environment, including Safe Researcher Training, and have an enhanced DBS check.

The role holder will have a track record of successfully completed research in social work, children’s social care or a closely related social science or health field. A postgraduate level qualification or equivalent professional experience in social science/social statistics is essential.

The role will be available from 1st July 2020 (or as soon as possible thereafter) with fixed funding until 31st January 2022.
