Monash University is honoured to be the first Australian university to receive a licence to operate in China, one of the world's largest and fastest-growing economies, via the partnership at Suzhou with the Southeast University (SEU), one of China’s key national universities as well as establishment of Monash Suzhou. The SEU-Monash partnership consists of the Joint Research Institute (JRI) and the Joint Graduate School (JGS), and will produce postgraduates and researchers with ideas to change people’s lives in the region and the world for the better.
The JRI conducts multi-disciplinary research projects in areas of strategic importance to industry in Australia and China. To facilitate the collaboration, Monash established The Monash Suzhou (Science and Technology) Research Institute (MSRI) and currently has five priority research themes that address strategic issues of mutual interest, including: advanced computation in science and engineering, advanced materials and manufacturing, energy and environment, life sciences and smart cities.
The University invites applications from Level D and Level E academics for the new position of Senior Principal Research Fellow, Monash Suzhou Science and Technology Research Institute/Senior Principal Research Fellow (Adjunct) Monash University.
Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor and President (Suzhou) with responsibility for the provision of high quality educational and training leadership, the role will be required to provide expert strategic support on the development, implementation and review of graduate and PhD initiatives within the Southeast University-Monash University Joint Graduate School (SEU-Monash JGS). The role will also be Vice President – Research Training, Monash Suzhou Research Institute (MSRI).
A key leadership position, this role will be required to advocate for outstanding learning outcomes for students and develop an environment that promotes improvement in educational and research training performance. It is expected that the Senior Research Fellow will play a lead role in supporting quality educational and research training outcomes in a joint approach between Monash University and Southeast University (SEU).
The Senior Research Fellow has a secondary reporting line to the Deputy Vice Chancellor and Senior Vice President - Education and with liaise closely with Associate Deans (Education) within the faculties, to achieve the vision and goals of the SEU-Monash JGS.
Suited to an individual with a strong record and reputation in research and academic excellence, the successful applicant will be a natural leader with an ability to promote and contribute to the university’s strategic direction.
With demonstrated experience in undertaking strategic planning initiatives and a capacity to develop and manage KPI and benchmarking programs as well as proven ability to build Sino-Australian relationships and contacts within Monash and SEU, the sector and industry to establish and sustain collaborations, this is an excellent opportunity for a senior Academic to take their career to the next step.
An appropriately qualified appointee will be offered an honorary adjunct appointment as a Senior Research Fellow with Monash University, to be held conjointly with this appointment.
The appointment will be for an initial period of three years and renewable, full time or fractional at a minimum fraction of 0.5 of full time. The appointee will also be expected to undertake teaching, research and administration duties.
The position will be based in Suzhou, China. Frequent travel between to other Monash campuses internationally will be required.
