Director of Human Resources

We are looking to appoint a visionary Director of Human Resources who can develop and deliver a comprehensive HR strategy built on our commitment to integrity, staff engagement and greater inclusion. We wish to create a stimulating and rewarding working environment where contribution is recognised, talent developed and both the staff and student experience enhanced.
This is a key senior management role responsible for the HR function and reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor. The role embraces all aspects of HR including resourcing, leadership and development, employee relations, reward, organisational development and equality, diversity and inclusion (ED&I).
As a member of the University Executive you will play a key part in developing the vision and direction of a well-founded university with enormous potential and a profound regional presence. The scope and opportunity for HR to make a highly significant impact should attract candidates with energy and the skills to envisage and lead positive change.
We have our strengths but need to develop the Business Partner model of engagement and support of our faculties and service functions. A coaching style is looked for in the person we appoint together with a breadth of experience in all areas of HR. The person we appoint should have the ability and insight to identify where HR can deliver most value and how the hard-working and enthusiastic HR team itself is best deployed, coached and developed.
Skills and experience
We’re looking for intuitive, motivational candidates with strong operational HR experience gained in medium to large, complex organisations. You may be an established Head of HR looking to come into Higher Education for the first time or may be already working at a senior operational level within a university, ambitious to lead your own team.
Strategic insight will be key and you should be influential, persuasive and adept at stakeholder management.
We are looking for candidates with a degree or post-grad qualification in a relevant subject, along with full CIPD membership.
