Job Description Summary

The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is the oldest and one of the finest medical schools in the United States. Job Description

The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for facilitating day-to-day operations in biomedical laboratory environment. This will include tracking and database management of specimens originating from clinical (blood, urine) and biomedical research (cells, tissues, biofluids).  Duties include sample preparation, handling, chemical extractions, and analytical analysis. General understanding of scientific principles is required and the demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge of science principles to problem solve work. The ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes is essential. General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications is also required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 0-1 year experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience in Analytical Chemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology, Computer Science, Math or related scientific field is preferred
  • Hands-on experience with mass spectrometry or NMR spectroscopy is preferred.
  • Experience with metabolomics and/or lipidomics using mass spectrometry is preferred but not required.
  • Meticulous record keeping and organizational skills is required.
  • Careful attention to detail in all laboratory techniques is required.
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment is required.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and coordinate experiments with co-workers is required.

  • Typically sitting at a desk or table; Occasional lifting 25 lb. or less
