Research Assistant Professor in Precision Metrology (Ref. 20061201)

In 2009, the Partner State Key Laboratory of Ultraprecision Machining Technology (PSKL of UMT) was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of the People’s Republic of China and was established in Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. In September of 2018, it was approved by MOST to rename as the State Key Laboratory of Ultra-precision Machining Technology (SKL of UMT). The SKL of UMT actively engages in various research areas including micro and nano-machining mechanics and technologies, advanced ultra-precision machining technologies and processes, research and development of ultra-precision machining equipment, precision metrology and instrumentation, precision manufacturing and its applications. Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    conduct research that leads to publication in top-tier refereed journals; 

(b)    pursue actively external research grants, such as General Research Fund, as Principal Investigator; 

(c)    provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level; 

(d)    contribute to departmental service; and

(e)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his delegates. 

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a)    have a doctoral degree in Precision Surface Measurement, Precision Metrology and Instrumentation or a related discipline;

(b)    have demonstrated promise of a high level of creative ability in research and teaching in some subdivisions of his/her field;

(c)    be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills; and

(d)    be a good team player and have excellent communication skills and the ability to use English as the medium of instruction.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Appointments will only be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
