RESEARCH SUPPORT ASSOCIATE, Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research-Sharp Lab, to assist with experiments--under the supervision of a postdoctoral associate--supporting research examining the effectiveness of immunotherapy in PDAC (pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma) as part of a multi-institutional cancer project in the laboratory of Philip A. Sharp. PDAC is a devastating cancer with very high mortality. The promise of immunotherapy, effective against several cancers, has not been fully explored in PDAC. Using mouse models of PDAC and patient samples, the laboratory is examining if immunotherapy is effective against PDAC, and if not, identifying and modulating the regulatory switches to make PDAC a candidate for immunotherapy. Responsibilities include executing and optimizing ongoing experiments; analyzing results and designing follow-up experiments; presenting findings/insights at group meetings; recording and organizing data generated in a clear, concise, and accessible format; culturing cancer cell lines and primary cancer cells from mouse tumors and human cancer biopsies; and helping process cell materials from mouse for preparation of RNA sequencing, exome sequencing, and ChIP-seq libraries.
REQUIRED: high school diploma/GED; knowledge of general laboratory practices/procedures; experience with lab techniques, including cloning (including TOPO and restriction cloning), CRISPR editing, and FACS; willingness to handle mouse and patient samples and extract RNA, DNA, and proteins for western blotting, PAGE, reverse transcription, and quantitative PCR; next-generation sequencing experience in an academic institution or industrial setting; strong problem-solving and organizational skills; ability to work independently and on teams; self-motivation; and commitment to producing high-quality work.
PREFERRED: bachelor’s degree; experience in a laboratory environment; basic understanding of Illumina sequencing technology, fluorescent microscopy, and flow cytometry; and familiarity with computational languages, e.g., R and Python. Job #18765-4
