The Headquarters of the European Social Survey European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ESS ERIC) is an independent research unit in the School of Arts and Social Science at City, University of London. It oversees the development and implementation of further rounds of the European Social Survey, and its infrastructure programme.

We are looking to appoint a research assistant with an interest in social surveys to join the pan-European team coordinating the European Social Survey (ESS).

Responsibilities

The post offers an excellent opportunity for someone with an interest in survey methodology to work alongside leading survey methodologists and take an active role in helping to design and deliver this prestigious cross-national survey.

The successful candidate will be involved in questionnaire design and pre-testing, fieldwork monitoring and a range of other survey-related tasks in preparation for ESS Round 10. They will also be expected to conduct analysis of ESS data in response to substantive or methodological research questions and take on some administrative duties to help in the smooth running of the project. There will be opportunities to co-author research papers and presentations.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have a good first degree and an interest in survey methodology. They should have practical experience of questionnaire design, fieldwork monitoring and other survey-related tasks. They will be able to work independently as well as in a large distributed team, have exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and have excellent analytical and organisational skills.
