The Department of Media Arts, Royal Holloway, University of London, wishes to recruit a 0.5 Lecturer (Teaching Focused)/Teaching Fellow in Media Arts to teach on its new BA program in Video Game Art and Design based at its Egham campus. The appointment will be made at Lecturer grade 8, with a start point varying according to experience and qualifications.

The post will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to teach on our video games degree, to play a key role in its development in shaping content and structure and to work closely with the student cohort. The post also offers the candidate the chance to teach modules in interactive and immersive design and creative digital arts on our sister BA in Digital Media Culture and Technology, as well as theoretical courses in game studies and media studies if they wish to and are qualified to do so. The post offers an exciting opportunity to work in a prestigious academic institution, with Royal Holloway placed 24th in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide national rankings for 2019, and the Department of Media Arts ranked in the top ten for the subject in REF 2014. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work closely with senior colleagues in the Department of Media Arts and the School of Performing and Digital Arts in a period of exciting development for the College.

The successful candidate will ideally have experience of teaching video games at undergraduate or FE level. In any case, they should show significant practical or industry success commensurate with the highest level of academic study. Of particular relevance will be the ability to teach Unity for 2D, 3D and immersive. The candidate should also be able to deliver introductory teaching on social, mobile and cloud-based games, and should be able to show evidence of successful game design experience in several of the above areas.

The job holder will report to the Head of Department of Media Arts, undertaking appropriate managerial and administrative duties. The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organisational, team-working and interpersonal skills, with proven abilities to engage with students and colleagues.
