Overview

PPPL has a temporary (summer) postdoctoral position open in the area of computational plasma physics, in particular to help develop and port the Gkeyll code, which is used for kinetic plasma simulations, for fusion energy research, and for other plasma applications. We seek an energetic applicant who has experience at the forefront of high-performance computing. This work will support a DOE Scientific Discovery through Advanced Computing (SciDAC) project and other PPPL projects.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will work closely with the Gkeyll team to help port the code to GPU architectures, support code development and optimization, and help document the code and physics results from the code. The applicant will carry out simulations with the code on high performance computing clusters.

Qualifications

• Applicant should have a Ph.D. in plasma physics.
• Applicants should have at least 3 years of experience with advanced scientific computing hardware and software tools, including C++, Lua, Python, parallel computing, and GPUs
• Knowledge of advanced plasma kinetic theory, discontinuous Galerkin methods and other advanced algorithms is required.
• Applicants should have experience with kinetic plasma solvers and with the Gkeyll code.
• Ability to work in a team is a must. 
• English communication and writing skills are required.
