Director, Business School

Solent University Southampton is a modern and ambitious university and despite current challenges, we think that the future is an exciting place. We’re embracing new ideas we’re creating opportunities and we’re responding to market changes quicker than most.

Following a data driven portfolio review the University is moving from five schools to three faculties (Arts; Computing, Media and Business; and Health and Sciences). The creation of a discrete Business School with its own Director and with a new high-profile space on campus, recognises the potential for growth and for raising the academic profile of the University through enhancing its teaching, research and knowledge exchange.

We are seeking a Director who will lead in launching us as a new, post-pandemic Business School, re-positioning the Solent offer as a high quality, academically vibrant institution that meets economic, social and industrial needs bringing together teams to address global and regional challenges in thematic areas. You will be responsible for creating the business plan and positioning the School as part of the 2025 Strategic Plan, working in partnership with external bodies, academics and our specialist teams to increase income from external sources and create a high-quality student experience, an exciting culture and increased impact.

Candidates will bring a track record as a leader in a relevant academic discipline and combine this with a desire to engage externally across the private and public sectors to help drive the ambition of the University. The role is an excellent opportunity for an academic leader keen on developing a clear vision and roadmap for our new School; a professorial appointment is available for those who meet our criteria across research, knowledge exchange or teaching and learning.

If you enjoy making a difference in HE, and thrive on supporting students and staff to excel, then we would be delighted to hear from you.
