Supported Employment and Education Specialist
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University is seeking a Supported Employment and Education Specialist based within the department’s Center for Youth Mental Health & Well-being (CYMHW). The Supported Employment and Education Specialist will be responsible for providing youth accessing allcove centers support and assistance in achieving their educational and/or employment goals. The first of its kind in the U.S., allcove is an innovative integrated youth mental health model being developed and piloted in collaboration with Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Services. The position will be embedded within the allcove clinical team and work closely with other staff across the two pilot sites (in San Jose and Palo Alto) to provide comprehensive coordinated care. The two allcove centers are scheduled to open in mid-2020.
The employment -related job responsibilities include supporting the allcove-serving youth in developing career goals, skills training, employment preparation, assistance with finding employment, and promoting job retention by providing on the job training and coaching to individuals. The goal of educational support will be to assist youth aged 12-25 in initiating, continuing, or completing their educational goals, particularly if their academic pursuits have been interrupted by mental health treatment. The Specialist will support youth with managing their school schedules, navigating school re-entry, and accessing appropriate accommodations at educational institutions, when needed. The Specialist will also serve as a school liaison, building strong relationships with local schools and universities to promote a smooth integration between students’ mental health treatment and their educational goals. The Specialist will work with the schools to implement complementary school-based mental health services and suicide prevention efforts.
- Offer one-on-one and group employment and educational coaching sessions for youth 12-25 years old.
- Develop and work out the details of new, nonstandard procedures for supported education and employment, with the supervisor providing general guidance and suggestions; and provide regular adjustments and modifications.
- Work closely with allcove clinical and administrative staff as a member of the care team serving allcove clients.
- Collaborate with the allcove technical assistance team within the Stanford CYMHW and the leadership at Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Services to carry out the deliverables of the pilot.
- Collect and maintain an up to date library of mental health and education/employment resources to make available to youth that will be served.
- Research and implement best practices from national and international partners.
- Independently manage a client appointment calendar and work hours across the two allcove centers.
- Respond to suggestions or needs expressed by the allcove youth advisory group, community consortium and other core stakeholders.
- Collect data as needed for evaluation purposes.
- Co-author sections of research publications and regulatory reports as needed.
- Complete project-related administrative and budgetary responsibilities of a limited scope as needed.
- Supervise staff or students as needed.
- Build relationships with local school and employer contacts and forge partnerships to benefit youth accessing allcove. Work with schools to implement complementary school-based mental health services.
- Develop and maintain positive community business relationships for the purpose of matching young people to jobs in their communities.
- Maintain client confidentiality and high ethical standards, as prescribed by the allcove policies and procedures manual.

- Training and/or experience working with adolescents and/or young adults
- Knowledge of mental health and experience working with youth experiencing mental health issues
- Experience providing education/employment services
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
- Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Basic analysis and problem solving skills.
- Customer service skills.
- Relevant computer systems/technology experience.
- Understanding of financial transactions.
- Ability to learn compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:
- Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, grasp, use a telephone, write by hand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
