Job Description Summary

The School Leadership Program is a strong program, with vibrant enrollment, an excellent reputation, a distinctive market position, and dedicated faculty. The primary focus of the program, the development of effective leaders for schools and systems, is widely recognized as one of the most powerful levers for school and systems-based change in education. A strong mentoring program and personal relationships play an important and essential role in the program. The program integrates the study and discussion of leadership theory with the implementation and discussion of best practices in schools.

Job Description

Duties:

The Associate Director will have major leadership responsibilities in the School Leadership Program. The individual will coordinate planning with the Director of the program and other instructors. The individual will also teach courses in instructional leadership and school organization as well as advise students. Responsibilities will include selecting and supervising mentors as well as overseeing all public school certification efforts for students in the program. The individual will represent the program to participating public schools and will be responsible for helping to recruit, admit, and support talented applicants. As part of the role, the individual will visit participating and potential participant school districts to represent the program, present at conferences, and write pieces about the program. The Associate Director will work closely with the Director and other team members to be involved in (and understand) the independent school side of the program and do whatever may be necessary to create an integrated program and cohesive cohort.

Qualifications:

A master’s degree and 10+ years of experience is required or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Doctorate preferred. Additional experience required:

  • significant public school teaching and leadership experience
  • Principal certification in Pennsylvania
  • Effective writing skills
  • Experience supervising others (preferred)
  • Ability to work in a team setting
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Takes clear initiative in forging positive and productive academic relationships with students.
  • Demonstrates the ability to accept a given task and carry it through to completion.
  • Works effectively in a team orientation
