Job description

17.5 hours per week (0.5 FTE), 14 Month FTC

We are seeking to recruit a Lecturer on a seconded basis to join our Department of Learning & Teaching Enhancement (DLTE) at Edinburgh Napier University. The period of secondment will run to the end of July 2021.

The Department of Learning and Teaching Enhancement has a strong record of research and innovation in staff development, partnerships with students in teaching and quality and applications of new technologies to pedagogy and will continue to invest in these areas as well as supporting broader pedagogical scholarship.

The role

An opportunity has arisen for a member of staff to join the Department of Learning and Teaching Enhancement (DLTE) on secondment at an exceptional time for the University when much attention is rightly focused on ensuring an engaging student experience which enables the achievement of modular and programme learning outcomes. To this end, DLTE will be leading a Digital Support Partnership project working across the University.

The secondment opportunity will enable the secondee to be part of this important project and will also facilitate engagement with other activities led by the Department. However, primarily, the post holder will teach and support learning, focusing on:

  1. Ensuring a quality learning experience for students on our MSc Blended and Online Education programme. This will include a range of activities including:
    • Creating and maintaining materials in Moodle in preparation for Trimester 1;
    • Supporting student engagement on this programme throughout the academic year;
    • Assessing modules across the programme.
  2. Ensuring a quality learning experience for students engaged in the credit-bearing, professional development programme we have designed for academics at GXUST in China.
  3. Ensuring a quality learning experience for staff members engaged in our PgC Learning, Teaching and Assessment Practice in HE.
  4. Feeding into the redesign of all DLTE’s credit and non-credit bearing provision, including ENroute so it can support the strategic mission of the University.

In this role, you will play an important role in supporting the development and delivery of excellent teaching and learning across the University and contribute to raising the profile of and contributing to pedagogical research across the University.

Who we are looking for

Essential requirements:

  • A doctoral level qualification
  • Recognition as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academic (preferably SFHEA)
  • Evidence of leading pedagogical innovation 
  • Evidence of change management skills
  • Sufficient breadth and depth of experience in pedagogy to develop quality teaching/ learning
  • An established record of accomplishment in a research area closely related
  • Experience of teaching and developing programme content in that area, and of delivering excellent teaching in an engaging way
