DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH, EDUCATION AND TRAININGAbdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), to lead J-PAL’s work in its research, education, and training areas within five themes--providing intellectual leadership to the research teams in the regional offices; creating research public goods; training on randomized trials and use of evidence; building the capacity of local researchers in developing countries to conduct independent research using randomized control trials (RCTs); and overseeing J-PAL’s academic programs. Specific responsibilities include leading and managing components of the J-PAL Global research function related to field work and project implementation as well as research staff capacity; managing the education efforts at J-PAL, which encompass all academic course work it collaborates on with MIT and other host universities; and managing the training and capacity building function for J-PAL offices worldwide.  Will also lead academic projects and provide academic service in economics such as referee reports, conference organization, conference participation, panel discussions, and advising undergraduate students and research staff.  

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: master’s degree in economics, political science, education, public policy, or related field; training in and a strong technical understanding of randomized impact evaluations; at least ten years’ relevant experience (graduate school academic experience including teaching and research may count as relevant experience); management and supervisory experience; interest in poverty alleviation or other social policy and research as demonstrated by coursework, research, and teaching experience; knowledge of data management, data analysis, econometrics, and statistics; advanced statistical analysis skills; proficiency with Stata, R, Python, or other programming languages used for data analysis; and willingness to learn new programs.
