Job Details

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Senior Power Systems Researcher within UCD School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

We are seeking to hire a Senior Power Systems Researcher to join as a member of the research team to contribute to the EU-SysFlex project.

EU-SysFlex is funded by the EU framework programme for research and innovation Horizon 2020. The EU-SysFlex project will test a high level of integration of renewable energy sources in the pan-European electricity system. The aim of the EU-SysFlex project is to identify issues and solutions associated with integrating large-scale renewable energy and create a plan to provide practical assistance to power system operators across Europe. This should ultimately lead to identification of a long-term roadmap to facilitate the large-scale integration of renewable energy across Europe.

The EU-SysFlex project activities will, through innovative processes, bring new solutions to the market: from the development of new approaches for system operation with high renewables, to market design and regulatory requirements, as well as integration of new system services and data management plans to cover the pan-European market.

The successful Senior Power Systems Researcher research will be focused on:

  • The coordination of a Flexibility Roadmap for the European power system, which provides a clear vision and strategy for the development and deployment of system services required by transmission system operators to support the integration of renewable energy sources, energy storage and flexible demand

The successful candidate should have strong experience in the electricity industry or a relevant research (PhD) background. The main responsibility of the position is to coordinate a Flexibility Roadmap, which will provide a high level overview of the project results, including recommendations for new system services, emerging technologies, market design options and regulatory reform, implementation strategies and appropriate timelines. The Roadmap will primarily be based on defined project deliverables, and additional input will be sought from project partners through questionnaires and stakeholder workshops.

Salary scale: €40,000 - €45,000 per annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent on qualifications and experience

Closing date: 17:00hrs (local Irish time) on 23rd June 2020

Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified. Any applications which are still in progress at the closing time of 17:00hrs (Local Irish Time) on the specified closing date will be cancelled automatically by the system. UCD are unable to accept late applications.
