Postdoctoral Associate, Department of Biological Engineering
Working at MIT offers opportunities, an environment, a culture – and benefits – that just aren’t found together anywhere else. If you’re curious, motivated, want to be part of a unique community, and help shape the future – then take a look at this opportunity.
POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Biological Engineering-Synthetic Biology Center (2 openings), to genetically program mammalian cells as part of a sponsored research program in synthetic biology. The lab is interested in the creation of genetic circuits that control differentiation from stem cells to organoids (e.g., liver, pancreas, brain). The resulting research program will make substantial contributions to developmental biology, physiology, and cancer biology. Responsibilities will include molecular cloning, mammalian and organoid cell culture, transfection, flow cytometry, data analysis and presentation, and other tasks, with the support of highly-trained technical staff and high-throughput lab automation equipment; and communicating results to team members and presenting to the scientific community through talks and publications.
The Weiss Lab is an interdisciplinary academic research lab that seeks to create integrated biological systems capable of autonomously performing useful tasks, and to elucidate the design principles underlying the engineering of complex cellular and tissue phenotypes.
REQUIRED: Ph.D. in biological sciences, computer science, engineering, physics, math, or related field. Must have experience in more than one of the following: mammalian cell culture, stem cells, organoids, large scale DNA assembly and characterization, genetic recombination technology, next-generation sequencing, CRISPR, high-throughput screening, computational methods and tools for analysis, and statistics. Biological experience in one of the following is required: molecular biology, protein engineering, immunology, or cell biology. Expertise in evolutionary and developmental biology and skills in flow cytometry and programming would be ideal. Seek a highly motivated entrepreneur who can prioritize and perform multiple tasks in a dynamic, multidisciplinary, team-oriented setting. Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills are highly valued; as is the ability to execute detailed technical protocols meticulously.
A minimum one year commitment is required.
