About the Faculty of Arts - Research Team
The Arts Research Unit provides high level end-to-end services spanning across the entire research portfolio to academic staff. The Team is central to the development of the Faculty’s research agenda, including the interpretation of Government policies, changes to definitions of research and external funding guidelines. The Team plays a pivotal role in promoting research opportunities, monitoring research performance, including grant outcomes, publications, strategic analysis of performance in relation to the ERA, as well as research benchmarking and quality assessments to ensure that the Faculty is best placed to maximise its considerable research strengths and performance track record.
About the role
Reporting to the Executive Director, Faculty of Arts, the Manager, Research is responsible for the management of activities supporting the Faculty’s research strategy. The incumbent works closely with the Associate Dean, Research, the Dean, the Faculty Executive Director and members of the Faculty’s Research Committee to support the development and implementation of the Faculty’s research priorities to drive performance.
The position plays a pivotal role in monitoring research performance, including grant outcomes, publications, strategic analysis of performance in relation to ERA, as well as research benchmarking and quality assurance assessments to ensure that the Faculty is best placed to maximise its considerable research strengths and performance track record. The Manager is also expected to work closely with the Faculty’s partnership and business development portfolios to identify, maximise and leverage opportunities for research funding and collaborative research opportunities with external bodies.
The Manager is expected to represent the Faculty at University committees and working groups, actively participating and contributing to research policy and planning at this level. The Manager is responsible for the efficient operation of the Research team, including all staffing, financial and budgeting arrangements, and the implementation of administrative systems and processes. They are also expected to actively participate as a member of the senior leadership group of the Faculty which exercises collective responsibility for issues of quality management and delivery of services across all portfolios.
The successful applicant will demonstrate qualities of being enthusiastic, self-motivated, be strategic thinking and have excellent communication skills. You will also have a strong understanding of the research environment within Australia and within a University context. Demonstrated project management, organisation and leadership ability will also be essential, along with experience in analysing research performance and developing research improvement strategies.
