The School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of the West of Scotland is inviting applications for the position of a Research Project Manager. The successful candidate will manage the administration of the H2020 project RAPID (Risk Aware Port Inspection Drones), which has secured €5 million funding from the European Commission. The post will be embedded within the Advanced Laboratory for Manufacturing and Autonomous Digital Applications (ALMADA) and the Research Project Manager will support the Principal Investigators in post-award coordination and will be responsible for grant cycle management, including project control and financial management, reporting of deliverables, organising workshops and travel logistics, and external stakeholder engagement.

UWS is the lead partner and coordinator of the RAPID consortium that brings together nine university and industry research organisations from across Europe, including Thales, SINTEF, Fraunhofer, Port of Hamburg, XOcean, University of Dundee, University of Limerick, and Revolve Water.

You will support the exploitation and impact development of RAPID. To facilitate the successful migration of research outcomes into high-value end-use solutions, you will help build strategic partnerships with interdisciplinary stakeholders and international end-use partners and develop a keen understanding of their objectives and technical needs.

This post is augmented by a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and 2 funded PhD studentships being advertised concurrently.

You will have appropriate professional qualifications in financial administration and/or project management, and demonstrable relevant experience of managing large multi-partner projects in either industry or academic settings. Prior experience of managing European Commission research and innovation projects with a STEM focus is essential. Applicants are expected to demonstrate competence in developing budgets, planning and negotiation, project governance, progress monitoring, risk management, and reporting financials. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English is essential. Applicants should have excellent interpersonal skills and have proven ability to establish and maintain effective networks and working relationships with international interdisciplinary partners.  It is desirable that applicants have knowledge and understanding of the drivers and trends in market sectors that use unmanned aerial and maritime systems.

The post will be embedded within the School of Computing, Engineering & Physical Sciences (CEPS), which has around 110 academic staff and over 2,300 undergraduate and postgraduate students. The successful candidate will be based at our Lanarkshire Campus with scheduled activities at our other campus locations and periodic requirement for national and international travel.
