In recent years, due to the issues of energy crisis, global warming, and pollution problems, electrical engineering has become increasingly important. For mankind to continue to develop, future electrical engineers must develop ways to generate and use electricity more efficiently and effectively. Large amount of resources will be poured into the profession to develop new apparatus and systems. Electrical engineering is now entering a new and exciting phase. In the not too distant future, you will see the following taking shape:
• Hybrid and pure electric vehicles will replace petrol cars.
• Wind farms and solar panels will appear in large scale to produce renewable energies.
• Advanced high-speed electric trains will replace airplanes as the preferred way of inter-city travel.
• Highly efficient lighting device will replace traditional electric lamp as primary lighting components.
Since the 1997 handover, Hong Kong has become the centre of Southern China's booming economy. To keep up with rapid development, Hong Kong is now expanding its electric mass transportation, constructing more intelligent buildings, and introducing more measures to encourage Hong Kong people to utilize electricity more efficiently.
The appointees will be required to:
(a) conduct research as the main duty and actively pursue external research grants, such as General Research Fund, as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator;
(b) provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level;
(c) contribute to departmental service; and
(d) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates.
(a) have a doctoral degree in Power Electronics/ Power Systems/ Electrical Engineering/ Transportation or a related discipline;
(b) have demonstrated promise of a high level of creative ability in research and teaching in some subdivisions of his/her field;
(c) be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills; and
(d) be highly proficient in written and spoken English.
Remuneration and Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Appointments will only be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
